Frowning at his sister, Zalier knew that she was lying to him but didn’t push. She looked exhausted, as though she hadn’t slept in days, and she was snapping at everyone. He would ask Amiri what had happened, but he was gone. He’d returned to Andove the morning after their last group meeting. He hadn’t told anyone he was leaving, just disappeared in the middle of the night.

“If you need anything, please let me know.”

Dismissing him with a wave of her hand Talina replied, “I’m alright Zalier. He should have gone back to his home world a long time ago, I’m not sure why he stuck around so long. Let’s focus on getting everything set up on Earth. The sooner we do, the sooner we can work on finding your life partner.”

Slowly nodding his head Zalier knew better than to pursue the subject further. He just wished that he knew what had taken the light out of her eyes. If he ever saw Amiri again he’d let him know what an officer in the Nian military did to someone that hurt their little sister.
